“The frost king will burn.

Seventeen-year-old Ruby is a Fireblood who has concealed her powers of heat and flame from the cruel Frostblood ruling class her entire life. But when her mother is killed trying to protect her, and rebel Frostbloods demand her help to overthrow their bloodthirsty king, she agrees to come out of hiding, desperate to have her revenge.

Despite her unpredictable abilities, Ruby trains with the rebels and the infuriating—yet irresistible—Arcus, who seems to think of her as nothing more than a weapon. But before they can take action, Ruby is captured and forced to compete in the king’s tournaments that pit Fireblood prisoners against Frostblood champions. Now she has only one chance to destroy the maniacal ruler who has taken everything from her—and from the icy young man she has come to love.” –Synopsis from Goodreads

I’d seen this book on Twitter, standard as I follow a lot of book bloggers and authors. Everyone kept commenting on how amazing this book was. My interest was sparked; I needed a copy. Fortunately when went into my favourite and trustworthy Oxfam Book Shop, there it was. Waiting for me. Absolutely no hesitation in claiming this book as my own.

This book is action-packed, it’s crazy. From the very start, you are thrown straight into the adventure. No messing around here my friends. This I really liked as I didn’t want the story to drag. Have no fear, the whole ‘FrostBlood’ and ‘FireBlood’ history is explained in detailed, not feeling at all rushed. Some YA Fantasies have gone into so much flipping detailed that it has completely lost me. I mean it’s not a bad thing but I don’t like to feel overwhelmed. Elly Blake explained this world perfectly. Her writing style was super seductive, drawing me into the narrative from literally the very beginning. The narrative flowed perfectly, I cannot fault it.

Ruby is such an interesting character, I loved her. Such a strong, well-written female that it almost makes me weep with joy. Her firey (hehe, fireblood get it?) personality is something not to miss throughout the book. Regardless of what she has been through, she never weakens and never willing to give up. She is totally badass and I absolutely adore her.

Okay, so romance. There was… a bit. Not too much. Sometimes I feel that romance in YA Fantasy can sometimes literally take over the whole damn plot when it’s not even the main narrative! But the amount that was written in was superb. Making me squeal. YES, SQUEAL. It wasn’t the main focus of the story but by the end of the book, I was gushing for more.

Basically, go buy the book. Go drag your butt to wherever you buy books and get yourself a copy. This book will suck you in. It is something that you don’t wanna miss. I have a feeling this series is going to be BIG.
